Digital Radiography.

Best Technology – Best Patient Results

Here at the Digital Dental Surgery Sydney, we’re all about embracing the latest technology to help patients get the very best treatment outcomes, and this is reflected in our Rayscan Alpha digital radiography equipment.

In recent years digital radiography has played an increasingly important part in the treatment planning and diagnosis of areas of endodontics (root canal treatment), orthodontics (treatment of jaw/teeth irregularities), and implant dentistry. It provides a fast, precise and comfortable way of obtaining clear and accurate images in order to diagnose any dental problems you might have.

The advantages of radiography in this digital form are that as well as giving us extremely accurate images, they can be immediately projected onto a screen/monitor which you can also see. This way, we can study your case with you, resulting in better dental evaluations and better treatment decisions.

In essence, digital radiography technology both improves and simplifies how we care for our patients’ teeth and in addition, it helps you, the patient, have a good understanding of what is going on inside your mouth. In other words, dental digital radiography equipment helps us to help you!

Digital Radiography – Reduced radiation equals profound results

For decades, dentists used standard x-rays to see what the naked eye couldn’t and traditionally, x-rays were developed by utilising hazardous chemicals in darkened rooms. Once developed they were then viewed on special light boards. While all x-rays involve the patient being exposed to some levels of radiation, state-of-the-art dental digital radiography systems like Rayscan, operate using significantly lower and ultimately, safer levels than that of traditional x-ray equipment.

So how does digital radiography work?

As soon as you step into our dental practice you’ll experience a quick and easy, stress free examination. As our state-of-the-art Rayscan scanner quietly and gently rotates around your head it obtains around 600 images. Rayscan’s scanning software then takes those images and in real time, reconstructs them to form a high definition, 3D image of your dental region on the screen. Images can then be magnified, rotated and adjusted to help with better diagnosis and treatment planning. What’s more, all digital radiography images can be stored easily and efficiently on our computer files, so if we need to recall, or reproduce them at a later date, we can easily do so.

What are the benefits of digital imaging using Rayscan?

We’ve already seen that our Rayscan CBCT delivers super-fast imaging in a comfortable and easy way but are there any other advantages of radiography from a computerised and patient-friendly perspective? Let’s take a look…

Aids anxious or pediatric patients

Because digital radiography imaging is carried out using a scanner and not film, our dental team don’t need to leave the room to develop and/or view any images. This means that we can devote all our time to your care and wellbeing while you’re here with us.

Digital radiography helps with better inter-office communication
While we carry out a wide variety of dental treatments and procedures here on site, there may be occasions when you need to be referred to a specialist – or alternatively, we need to seek outside advice. Typically, this would involve patients having to wait for conventional radiograph imaging to be transferred manually to the end user.

In contrast, with digital radiography imaging, those same scans can be sent electronically as soon as they are captured. What’s more, in an emergency scenario, our team could even consult with an industry-specific specialist directly, while you’re still in the chair. Given these type of situations do exist, speedy and efficient digital radiography can be invaluable.

Rayscan aids greater patient education
Another of the benefits of digital imaging with the Rayscan system is that with just a few keystrokes it allows us to recall any past radiographs. As a result, previous images of your mouth can then be compared to more recent ones so that you can quickly and easily see any improvements/problems which may have occurred during the elapsed time.

Moreover, because computerised dental images are clear and concise it makes it easier to see what’s been happening, allowing you to ‘buy into’ the diagnosis or treatment with confidence.

Our digital radiography system helps us to be more patient centred
By being more time efficient and user-friendly, it allows us to centre more of our attention and devote more of our time to the needs and requirements of our patients.
