With so many different tooth replacement options on the market, patients want to know more about the DIO implant and how digital implant technology can make their procedures safer, faster and more affordable. At Digital Dental Surgery Sydney we realise the benefits of DIO dental implants and are proud to offer our patients a progressive and minimally invasive procedure.
Technology is propelling the world forward, optimising many processes and implantology is no different. With the assistance of DIOnavi implant technology, patients can look forward to more accurate and precise procedures that are faster to complete.
Why Are Implants So Successful At Replacing Teeth?
There are lots of different tooth replacements out there, but the permanence that dental implants offer is unrivalled by other options. In fact, dental implants are a field of dentistry that has seen incredible advances in recent years.
Dentures and bridges only really replace a tooth cosmetically whereas dental implants are screwed into your jaw, so they replace the tooth above and below your gum.
The result of this is that your jaw receives stimulation through the artificial teeth roots of your implant, and this can prevent further bone loss. When the roots of your teeth are not replaced the jaw bone in the area starts to disintegrate.
If you have a failing tooth, your dentist will first establish whether it can be saved through treatment for gum disease or root canal treatment.
How Does A DIO Implant Differ From A Traditional Implant?
DIO implants offer flapless surgery
With a traditional implant procedure, your dentist will need to make an incision into your gum in order to access the jaw underneath. Once the bone graft has been done or the implant has been placed, the incision is stitched up again. However, if you need subsequent treatments or if your dental practitioner needs to access the site again, the incision will be re-opened and re-stitched.
With DIO dental implants, your dental practitioner does not need to make an incision because the implants are placed through keyhole indentations that are made into your jaw. After the holes have been made, the implant can be screwed into place. If the dentist needs to access the site again he or she can do without reopening an incision or performing another invasive procedure.
Using flapless surgery can help to minimise your chance of an infection and also accelerate your healing time after the procedure. Because there isn’t an incision into your jaw, your bleeding, swelling and discomfort is minimised.
DIO implants offer digital guidance
With a traditional procedure, your dentist needs very careful hand-eye coordination in order to get the correct placement. He or she will use x rays to assess where to place the implant. It’s important that your dentist sees where the nerves run, where the sinus cavities are and ensures that your soft tissue is safe and protected throughout.
With DIOnavi implant procedures, digital mapping is used to show your dentist where to place the implant. This reduces his or her margin for error and makes the process of plotting and placing the implant that much easier.
Your dental practitioner can also give you a digital impression of what your final result will look like. If you have a more complex case that requires more than the placement of a single procedure, digital guidance will assist your dentist in providing you with an integrated treatment plan.
DIO implants present a faster treatment plan
Typically, an implant procedure can take up to 18 months to complete because it is broken down into stages and at the end of each stage your gums and jaw need time to heal – sometimes a couple of months is needed between each phase of the procedure.
In a traditional procedure the implant and abutment are usually attached in separate procedures, which could be spaced two to three months apart from one another. In some cases by using DIO implants the dental practitioner can offer immediate loading, and a patient may be able to go home with their new teeth on the same day.
Because it is non-invasive, and because technology is used to assist the dental practitioner in finding the correct site for placement, a DIO procedure can be completed much faster than traditional dental implants.
On average, a traditional dental implant procedure can be completed in five to seven visits to the dentist. By comparison, dio digital implants can be done in just two to three visits.
While it is possible for a patient to go home with a temporary solution on the same day, most digital procedures take an average of five to seven days to complete. For the patient this is much more convenient and cost saving.
Spend less time in the chair
Placing two dental implants using the traditional method can take up to 130 minutes to complete. If your dentist uses DIO implants this can be reduced to just 15 minutes for two implants.
A DIO implant is suitable for most patients
Because of the element of risk associated with traditional dental implants, there is a large proportion of patients who are ineligible. Some risk groups include patients with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obese patients.
If you are someone with gum disease or osteoarthritis, or you have lost a lot of bone density because a tooth has been missing for some time already you may first need a bone graft before you can go ahead with implants.
What about the cost of digital dental implants?
The only way to establish what DIO implants would cost you is to have an assessment by your dentist and to compare a traditional treatment with a digital procedure.
It’s difficult to put a price tag on risk though, and while a DIO implant procedure is likely to come out a bit more expensive, you can rest assured that your chances of complications are much lower and your chances of implant success are that much higher. It might be an expense this month or next, but overall it’s actually an investment in your long term dental health.
